The Poppy Appeal is the RBL’s biggest fund-raising event held every year in November, and this year the theme and message of the RBL appeal is ‘Service not Self’. The Royal British Legion has been supporting Service men and women, ex-serving personnel and their families since 1921, at the heart of a national network looking after our Armed Forces community. Local dignitaries, veterans, parents and school children came together to support the launch and first official fund-raising event.
The Academy was proud to host the Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal alongside their annual Remembrance Service which was both moving and inspirational event for all those involved.
In attendance there were soldiers from 22nd Signal Regiment and aviators from the Tactical Supply Wing who were displaying military equipment on the playground of the Academy. Children enjoyed talking and interacting with uniformed personnel whilst having their pictures taken next to them and their military vehicles. It was a memorable event for the Academy community who also welcomed the Lord Lieutenant, the High Sherriff, the Mayor, the RBL, Watchman. John Wheeldon Primary Academy’s Head Boy and Head Girl were also awarded prizes!
We would like to offer heartfelt thanks to all those involved in a very memorable and emotive Remembrance Service which was recognised by the wide understanding and support of the children and staff at the Academy.
