St Luke’s CE Primary Academy recently welcomed two authors to school for an inspirational visit with children across the Academy.

The day brought together readers, authors and illustrators to explore the magic of storytelling, imagination and artistic expression. St Luke’s welcomed back, Ruth Hearson, a  former parent, Illustrator and author of books such as The Non-Stop Knotty Knitter and The Ark that Noah Built.

Throughout the day, Ruth worked with the FS & KS1 children, introducing them to the world of book illustration. She spoke about the processes from the very first idea and needing a great imagination to the final stages of her artwork being published and found in bookshops.

The KS2 children worked with Alex Foulkes, author of books such as The Ministry of Mischief and Rules for Vampires. Here is what Alex thought of her visit to St Luke’s:

“And speaking of appreciation: wow. You are a beautiful school. Lovely kids, great staff, fantastic culture of learning and kindness, wild creativity and imagination. I could not possibly have asked for a better visit; St Luke’s really blew me away! It was lovely to see their respect towards grown-ups, but also towards each other. It makes me so happy when I hear the students encouraging their friends.

I mentioned it in the last session with you, but when a school is this good, it makes my job 10x easier – I can focus on giving my 110%.  Honestly, it was… just absolute joy. Thank you for allowing me to be part of your community for the day.”

We are proud of the fantastic teaching and learning taking place at St Luke’s, and the culture and ethos which is very much valued by the Trust and school community.
