St Edward’s Camping

The Year 2 and Year 3 children at St Edward’s CE Academy recently embarked on an exciting adventure that showcased their courage, resilience, and sense of responsibility during a memorable school sleepover that many children experienced as their first night away from home.

The sleepover began with an evening around the campfire. The children gathered to make delicious s’mores and played games in the forestry area.

The next morning, the children awoke bright and early, eager for a day filled with discovery and creativity. They began by making leaf identification wheels, a hands-on activity that combined learning with fun. Armed with their new tools, the children set off on a hunt, eagerly identifying the various leaves they had collected. This exercise not only enhanced their knowledge of nature but also encouraged teamwork and keen observation.

The morning’s activities continued with a session of forestry art. The children reused the charcoal from the previous night’s campfire to create beautiful nature drawings, connecting them to the environment in a creative and meaningful way. They also crafted natural paintbrushes, which they plan to use for charcoal paintings in upcoming art lessons. This innovative use of materials highlighted the importance of resourcefulness and sustainability.

Throughout the sleepover, the children demonstrated remarkable courage, resilience, and responsibility. For many, sleeping away from home was a new experience, and they faced it with bravery and a positive attitude. The activities not only provided fun and education but also helped the children build essential life skills such as independence, collaboration, and environmental awareness.

The Year 2 and Year 3 sleepover at St Edward’s CE Academy was an enriching experience that allowed the children to connect with nature, express their creativity, and develop important personal qualities. The memories made and lessons learned during this adventure will undoubtedly stay with them for years to come.

St Edward’s Scarecrow Festival

Every year, St Edward’s CE Academy enthusiastically participates in the Cheddleton community scarecrow festival. This cherished tradition has seen the school create an array of imaginative scarecrows over the years, ranging from depictions of kings and queens to nursery rhyme characters and beloved Bible stories.

The theme for this year, ‘favourite films,’ sparked a wave of excitement among the children. The film chosen by the school was the beloved classic Matilda. Each class at St Edward’s selected a different character from the film to bring to life through their scarecrows.

For the past few weeks, the village of Cheddleton has been transformed. Residents and visitors alike have delighted in spotting the scarecrows and appreciating the hard work and creativity behind each one.

The scarecrow festival is not just a fun project for the children; it also serves as a wonderful opportunity for community engagement. Families, friends, and local residents come together to admire the scarecrows, turning the event into a festive and social occasion. The festival helps strengthen community bonds and showcases the talents of the young students at St Edward’s CE Academy.

The tradition of participating in the Cheddleton community scarecrow festival is a time when students can let their creativity shine and work collaboratively on a project that brings joy to the entire community.

As the festival continues, St Edward’s CE Academy looks forward to many more years of contributing to this delightful community event, inspiring both young and old with their imaginative creations.
