Staffordshire University Academies Trust would like to congratulate Mr Sutton, Head Teacher of John Wheeldon Primary Academy, on completing the Manchester Marathon on 16th April 2023!
The adidas Manchester Marathon is one of the UK’s premier running events, involving 28,000 participants. The marathon began at the Trafford Arch, through Manchester City Centre, past Old Trafford Stadium and through Greater Manchester, including areas of Stretford, Sale, Timperley and Altrincham, to complete the total 26.2 miles.
Mr Sutton said “this is a personal goal and I am very pleased to have completed the marathon whilst raising money to support disadvantaged pupils.
Reading is the key to all learning and love of reading is the key to love of learning. If children can’t read at home, this, and many other opportunities, are instantly denied them.
Reading at home is a vital part of children’s development. We are looking to enable this though engagement with reading charities who will provide the books at a reduced cost.”
In running the marathon, Mr Sutton has raised over £1400 so far, to support the growing number of children who have no access to books at home, which is being compounded by the rising cost of living.
