A couple of years ago, Westlands Primary School introduced their innovative book vending machine to inspire their pupils to read at home. This initiative has blossomed into a wonderful program, encouraging a love for literature among their children. Westlands are thrilled to share the amazing results from last year.
Westlands Primary School shared:
“We had 74 children who read an incredible 200 times at home throughout the academic year. These avid readers earned gold coins to spend in our vending machine, where they could choose from a selection of exciting books.
Even more impressive, 36 children reached 250 reads, and 13 dedicated readers surpassed the remarkable milestone of 300 reads! To celebrate their achievements, these children were entered into a prize draw at the end of the year for a chance to win a coveted book voucher. Their commitment not only showcases their love for reading but also sets a fantastic example for their peers.”

In addition to the reading program, Westlands are also proud to announce that they received the Petwise Award from the PDSA at the start of term! Over the past two years, the children have engaged in a variety of activities designed to earn points toward this prestigious recognition.
The educational assemblies focused on essential topics, such as how to care for pets, the founding principles of the PDSA, and important legislation regarding dangerous dogs aimed at keeping the community safe. To further support this initiative, our children organized a delightful cake sale to raise funds for the PDSA. Additionally, they incorporated fun games and activities in the classroom, reinforcing the importance of responsible pet ownership while fostering teamwork and creativity.
Westlands Primary School are very proud to have this award along with a certificate and trophy in recognition of all of their work. They children also received a pin badge and lanyard to show they are now Petwise!
Staffordshire University Academies Trust is proud to recognise the fantastic achievements of the children at Westlands Primary School – congratulations to everyone involved for their hard work and commitment!
