Congratulations to Dove First School
Last week Dove First School learned that they were one of only three out of twenty-five partner schools to newly graduate from the English Hub phonics programme. This fantastic achievement will make a big difference to children’s progress when learning phonics.
Dove First School first embarked on this exciting journey in 2019 when they were invited to join the DfE English Hub and take part in a journey of intensive training to support and transform the teaching of phonics and early reading in the school.
Two years later, their main aim was to raise expectations for all children, to increase their phonics screening results. This target has been met with an incredible improvement by the school.
In 2020, the school had a fantastic result with a 100% pass rate in the phonics screening test. This is despite pupils having significant time away from school this academic year, due to the pandemic. Staff have maintained rigour in their teaching and are on track for excellent results in the 2021 screening check again.
At SUAT we are so pleased with the school’s progress and have supported them and their dedicated staff who have embraced change and effected this impressive improvement. Well done to everyone involved!
